Traditional Thai massage has it's foundations in over 2500 years of traditional Thai
medicine. It combines elements of yoga, shiatsu, acupressure and reflexology, while working with the energy
pathways of the body and the therapy points that are located along these lines.
This ancient form of massage is famous for balancing the body's energy system. It helps to adjust skeletal
structure, stimulate internal organs, improve flexibility and general well being. Also known as Thai yoga massage,
it incorporates "yoga type" stretches to help loosen tight joints and the major muscles of the body. No oil is used
during this treatment.
In Thailand, Traditional Thai massage translates as "Nuad Phaen Thai" and is a Buddhist principal 'Metta' or
loving kindness. This Thai massage technique is known as the foundation of effective healing for body, mind and
soul.
The founder of this Traditional massage technique was Shivaga Komarpaj. He was a doctor and friend of Buddha. To
preserve the tradition of Thai massage, ancient medical literature was carved in stone. These original recordings
can still be found today at the Wat Pho temple in Bangkok.
